A brief description of Dutch Aged Care (WA) Inc.
DACWA

The principal aim of Dutch Aged Care shall be to assist in maintaining or improving the quality of life of persons who are aged and living in the Perth (WA) metropolitan area and who identify with the Dutch or the German culture.

DACWA began as a Dutch speaking organization which was established in 1989 as a Home Visiting Scheme with volunteer staff giving elderly, frail and immobile persons within the Dutch community in Western Australia an opportunity to remain in contact with their culture. In its early days we funded these activities solely through membership fees, donations & fundraising.

In 1993 the Commonwealth Government funded the Community Visitors Scheme, an initiative which greatly assisted in reaching a larger number of aged Dutch and German speaking seniors in our community. This scheme is specifically directed at those persons living in Aged Care Facilities who are often in danger of social and/or cultural isolation. Our enthusiastic and caring volunteers visit these senior citizens on a regular basis.

The Commonwealth Government also introduced the Community Aged Care Packages in its 1992/1993 Budget. This program provides funding for a range of care services consisting of home help, personal care and social support to eligible older persons who are still living in their homes and wish to live independently as long as possible.

Our team of bi-lingual Support Workers provides these "Thuiszorg" (Home Care) services for clients of a Dutch, German and Flemish speaking background. Today the "Home Visiting Scheme", which is purely done by the volunteers of our Dutch Aged Care W.A. Inc. services, is still wholly self-funded and thus relies heavily on fundraisers, donations and membership fees.

The primary role of the Dutch Aged Care W.A. Inc (DACWA) is to provide the highest possible culturally appropriate care to those who are frail and elderly in our target communities.
